Musculoskeletal System Function

The Skeletal system is the body system composed of bones and cartilage. The skeletal system performs critical functions for the human body. It facilitates movement and protects internal organs. The bone marrow inside the bones making up the skeletal systems produce red blood cells.

Musculoskeletal System Organs

  1. Visceral Muscle:Visceral muscle is found inside of organs like the stomach, intestines, and blood vessels.
  2. Cardiac Muscle: Found only in the heart.Cardiac muscle is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body.
  3. Skeletal Muscle: Is the muscle responsible for supporting the body and movement of the body. Skeletal bone: Gives the body its shape and support.
  4. Ligaments: Connect bones to other bones resulting in joints.
  5. Cartilage:  It is flexible connective tissues that connects bone together.
  6. Tendons: Connect bones to muscle to facilitate movement.
  7. Joints and other connective tissues: Hold the bones together and allow for a  variety of movement.

                    Interaction with Other Systems

  1. O The system that interacts with the muscular system is the skeletal system.
  1. The muscles move the bones.
  1. T The nervous system controls the muscles that are attached to the bones and
  1. send messages to allow the bones to move.
  1.  T The circulatory system brings oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and removes
  1.   t toxins and by products.
  1. A A lot of organs in the body are made out of muscles. The heart is a large muscle that
  1. must contract in order to pump blood.
  1. The gastroesophageal tract is made out of muscles that must contract in order for us
  1. to digest and absorb our nutrients.

  1. Analogy

Analogy Explanation

The Musculoskeletal system functions to support the body and enables it to move. The nervous system orders the muscles to contract and start moving the skeletal bones.  Similarly, the engine of the skeleton of the car and its wheels function to support the car and enable it to move. The engine is like the nervous system, it tells the wheels,  which in this case are like the muscles, to move the car’s metallic structure. This gives the car its form and support just like the skeletal bones.
